Maternity Reflexology

You are starting on a new and exciting phase of your life. Having a baby, whether or not it is your first pregnancy, will bring you plenty of wonderful experiences and new challenges. Maternity Reflexology can support you throughout pregnancy and promote general wellbeing.
It aims to improve your physical and emotional health by working on specific reflex points. A maternity reflexology session will also give you time away from your busy life and enable you to focus on yourself on your growing baby.

Your body will be going through a huge amount of changes and these will affect your emotional, hormonal and physical balance in your body. Maternity reflexology can assist in alleviating or even preventing symptoms from these imbalances arising.
There has been some research that shows that regular Maternity Reflexology treatments during pregnancy can shorten the duration of labour and many women requiring less pain relief. (1) It also aids in regulating sleep (2)

This is a time when there are vast changes in hormone levels as well as anxiety and concerns about the changes that are going to happen. These factors may leave you feeling delighted, anxious, exhilarated, weepy and exhausted – often all at once. The aim of the treatment will be to aid relaxation, de-stress and offer support.
Symptoms that may be helped: Morning sickness, dizziness, headaches, tiredness, anxiety, heartburn and breast tenderness, relaxation, stress relief

Many of the initial discomforts from the first trimester have now gone but as the baby grows you may be experiencing more physical symptoms such as hip and back ache. You may also be feeling more stressed as the birth gets closer. The aim of the treatment is to improve general feelings of wellbeing and focus on physical symptoms.

Symptoms that may be helped: Backache, dizziness, constipation, sinus problems, oedema, low mood, breathlessness, tiredness, increased urination, pubic discomfort, heartburn, anxiety, relaxation, stress relief
More frequent treatments, as your due date approaches, can help to support your body during its preparation for birth. It also allows you to relax if you are feeling anxious about the birth
There is a great focus on pregnancy and the birth but it is vital to look after yourself once the baby has arrived. The aim of the treatment will be to assist your recovery and rebalance hormones. This can be a great chance for time to yourself but it can also be a great bonding session with your baby.

Symptoms that may be helped: Boosts energy levels, aids in sleep regulation, pubic discomfort, backache, boosts immune system, relaxation, stress relief, issues with breasts, mood.

Any Concerns?

Maternity Reflexology is safe during all trimesters of pregnancy. It is, however, not recommended if there is a history of premature labour, high blood pressure or any other health issues. If you suspect any problems in your pregnancy it is important to contact your doctor or midwife.
