Pregnancy Massage

Suitable after the first trimester.

Anyone pregnant falls into the “vulnerable” category with regard to Covid-19. As the benefits you gain from a massage or reflexology during pregnancy can be great we can discuss the possibility of a treatment. This will need to be discussed with your healthcare provider and written permission will need to be provided.

Pregnancy Massage

Massage during pregnancy can have enormous benefits not only to you but also your unborn baby. It can support you both emotionally and physiologically during a time when your body is undergoing immense changes and can help prepare your body for birth.

This is a time of great excitement and joy for you as an expectant mother but it can also be a very stressful and massage can help to reduce these stress levels.

If you receive regular massages whilst pregnant it can make you more aware of you body and will enable you to relax during the 1st stage of labour, which could lead to a shorter, easier birth, less pain and a lower rate of postnatal complications. It could also lead onto increased breast-feeding success.

Benefits of massage during pregnancy…

Aches and Pains

Pregnancy can put huge pressure on the physical body, putting pressure on joints, ligaments and organs, which can cause pain and discomfort.
Massage can help to alleviate these aches and pains by releasing muscular tension of the upper back, shoulders, lower back and hips.

Massaging the intercostal and pectoral muscles may help with your breathing.

It may increase the production of oxytocin which is a pain reducing hormone. This can aid in pain relief during pregnancy, labour and birth.

The baby may also physically respond to the massage by ‘kicking’

The Treatment

There will be an initial consultation taking about 10-15 minutes.
The massage will take place with you lying on your side supported by pillows. The movements will vary depending on your needs and may develop as your needs change. You will then change sides and the treatment ends with a relaxing face and head massage.

At no point will you be lying on your baby (tummy!)

The treatment will be discussed and some aftercare advice will be given.
